"It is one of the defects of my character that I cannot altogether dislike anyone who makes me laugh."

Sometimes I have to pause and remember,
I am a real person with shoes on my feet and dates in my planner. I am not just an echo, an aftermath, the uncomfortable silence that hangs after every joke.
I can control things. I can wake up in the morning and I can say,
“I will smile today,”
and then smile all day, I can say,
“I will go for a walk,”
and then go for a walk, I can say,
“I will make someone laugh,”
and then make someone laugh.
I’ve forgotten how to say things and smile all day and go for walks and make someone laugh. I have become so used to just existing. To living scared. Most of the time, I want to break out of my skin and scream, Look here, I love you, or I don’t love you, or just Stop, stop, listen.
But life is not about the things you cannot say, it’s about the things that you do, and I want to do this. I do love you and I don’t love you and I know you’re listening. I will not get lost in the sea of maybe. There is only here, and here, and here, and now, and you, and me. And me and me and me and me. I am still standing.

Hugh Laurie on his character ‘House’: “The character is so inherently self-destructive to the point of being virtually suicidal, that a fictional character cannot sustain that suicidal tension indefinitely. You can’t have a man on a window ledge threatening to jump forever. At some point, he’s got to jump or get back into the building because the crowd below – who are either urging him to jump or not jump – eventually will lose interest. And I think because the tension must dissipate eventually. And I certainly felt – and I think that was a general view – that we should fold up our tent and steal away into the night before the tension had lessened.” [full interview here]
guys, remember when I was in love with House? Yeah, that was probably problematic.
"Most people don’t care about politics. They’re not running around with these preformed opinions in their head. They worry about what they’ll make for dinner and how to get their kids to bed. And that hasn’t changed. For us, that’s an alien world. We think about politics all the time. But we’re not normal. The 24-hour news cycle has not really affected the average American who isn’t into politics. And that’s really important to remember."
